Qualcomm "hold"

NEW YORK, April 5 (newratings.com) - Analysts at Stifel Nicolaus & Company maintain their "hold" rating on Qualcomm Incorporated (QCOM).

In a research note published this morning, the analysts mention that Nokia has paid $20 million to Qualcomm, as a payment for the usage of certain patents of the latter company provided via the European Telecommunication Standardization Institute (ETSI). Nokia intends to continue to make similar payments in the ongoing litigation and negotiation with Qualcomm, Stifel Nicolaus & Company adds. The analysts view these payments to Qualcomm as a legal posturing ahead of the imminent lawsuits, which would be filed when the present royalty agreement expires.
